Las Vegas has it all: mythology, music, money. It is therefore small wonder that an increasing number of bachelor parties are heading to the Entertainment Capital of the World for last-chance fun and frolics before the groom’s big day.
The days when stags would flock to Birmingham to head down Broad Street for a curry dressed as Banana Man are seemingly long gone. The lure of the grand casinos on the Vegas Strip are far too alluring, depicted quite memorably by the smash hit of last year, The Hangover. In the movie three groomsmen lose their groom-to-be, forcing them to retrace their steps across Sin City in an attempt to get him back before the wedding. As it happens, he has married a stripper (Heather Graham) and as the story evolves hilarity ensues.
Fortunately, these circumstances are not a requirement from the Las Vegas tourist board. If this was the case, you can bet your bottom dollar that every self-respecting bride-to-be would take umbrage at a best man telling her that Vegas was their stag destination. Even so, one might be forgiven for thinking that such stories are the stuff of Hollywood legend alone.
Not so. In 2009 a Bristol University student married an Australian stranger for a joke during his trip to Vegas. Naturally, when he returned home, his long standing girlfriend did not see the funny side and dumped him, uttering a completely different vow than those that had passed his own lips.
Fortunately, for all blushing brides and grooms, there is much more to Vegas than marrying strippers. The city boasts the highest concentration of casinos in the world, and the craps tables and roulette wheels are plenty to keep the whole party going (as long as it is not the wedding fund that the groom is taking with him). Post-casino, there are several glamourous night clubs that offer VIP services, and others which take the heat up a few degrees, depending on the mood of the party. Add in some limosuoine transfers with champagne on ice and the foundations for a memorable bachelor party are well and truly laid – as long as the groom to be remains otherwise.
Ergo if the best man cannot be trusted, perhaps the bride should insist that her future husband should stick to his favourite online casino and pick another destination for his bachelor party.
